which upgrade would b better for a laptop?

The processor you own is a good one. Upgrading the RAM will do you more accurate. The only sense to upgrade this processor would be if you are running applications that require a faster processor. Otherwise you will see more system improvement by doubling your RAM.
when using Windows Vista the better upgrade is 2GB run into.
Honestly, memory is king. That CPU step is nothing compared to the extra 1 GB RAM. GO for the memory and you will not regret it.
