why do some of my dvd's work on my laptop and not others?

why do some of my dvd's work on my laptop and not others?

Some newer formats of DVDs are not compatible next to older drives. Also, some encryption technology being used are not acknowledged by your DVD player software. You might want to update the firmware for your drive from the manufacturer and/or carry a newer version of the DVD player you own installed.
If the DVD are copied, some of them may not work. Also, if you have an elder DVD Rom, it may not recognize the newer DVDs. But my guess is that you be trying to play a copied DVD, sometimes they don't play. Good Luck!!

It's possible your laptop has an elder DVD drive - DVD's come in two formats, the DVD-R and DVD+R format. If your drive is a +R, it can't read -R discs, and vice versa.

Most foreign DVD drives can read both +/- discs, so that is no longer a concern.
The computer within question have to have a DVD player, which is an recommended peripheral. Do those computers on which the dvd's don't work, own dvd players?
If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem near device drivers, hardware or software.
