why do i own to put within a boot disc to start up my laptop(time laptop) ?

You might be set for Boot from disc. Press F2 when booting to capture to settings and change boot from disc to boot from easier said than done drive.
It's possible there is a problem near the boot loader on your new rock-hard disk.

If you using Windows:

Put in the install compact disc and boot it.

Go into the recovery console.

Run: fdisk /mbr

This should reinstall the master boot diary and Windows should then boot typically.
I'm assuming that you have formatted and installed your operating system on the strange hard disk...?

Otherwise.....the Master Boot Record (MBR) is corrupted or gone. You will need to insert your operating system disk into the drive and repair the MBR. That will depend on the operating system you use.....check your OS website for details on repairing installations or repairing MBR.
Given that the OS is properly installed, you may hold incorrectly set the jumpers on the drive.

Sometimes the BIOS will not boot from a drive (or propose the option to) if it is set as a slave drive.

Besides the other dutiful points brought up already I would make sure it is configured as "Primary Master" within your BIOS.

turn to bios setup

check the priority of boot devices

if c-drive is not there, apply it as first or second boot device.
